How to BALANCE The Sacral CHAKRA

For most men the idea of crystals, meditation, reiki (energy healing), and yoga are not as common of a spiritual practice. Here at Coroa Yoga we want to bridge the gap and connect men to the practice of yoga and the many healing practices our team uses daily to stay synced and connected. One practice that we believe helps men is Chakra balancing. During the month of September we are exploring the energy of the Sacral Chakra.

So you might be wondering, “what the heck is a Chakra?” A chakra is a center of subtle energy and part of our energy body, the energosoma. Throughout history, several philosophies, mystic traditions, religions and alternative medicine frameworks include the concept of chakras, and state that chakras are connected to overall health and to the evolution of consciousness. The word Chakra itself means Wheel, Disk, or Circle in Sanskrit.  There are 7 main chakras:

Coronochakra (or crown chakra)

Frontochakra (or third eye)

Laryngochakra (or throat chakra)

Cardiochakra (or heart chakra)

Splenochakra (or spleen chakra)

Umbilicochakra  (or solar plexus / sacral)

Sexochakra (or root chakra)

To harness the real power of these energy centers, you need to learn the basic facts about each individual chakra.

The Sacral Chakra is the second chakra and is known to be the center of pleasure, enjoyment and creativity. If you’re working towards creative goals or want to facilitate change in general, it’s wise to get a proper handle on the sacral chakra in particular. When the Sacral Chakra is not balanced it manifests through general emotional instability or through feeling creatively uninspired, fearing change, feeling depressed or indulging in addiction-like behaviors. Physical manifestations of sacral chakra misalignment include sexual dysfunctions - and we know you guys don’t want that!

In this blog we will be discussing how to BALANCE the Sacral Chakra. Here we will share how to open the sacral chakra, how to deal with sacral chakra blockage, and how to cultivate the skills to practice the most effective sacral chakra exercises.

Location: The sacral chakra location is in the center of your abdomen, just a couple of inches below your navel.

Color: Orange.

Element: Water

Seed Sound: VAM

Purpose: Movement and Connection

Basic Right: Self - regulation

Associated Animal: Crocodile.

One of the easiest and most interesting ways we see balancing the sacral chakra is child's play. When you play like a child you awaken your creative energy. Have you ever noticed how children play? A child will spend several hours building a Lego tower, a sandcastle, or an exquisite dollhouse. Then, the same child will smash their masterpiece in an instant and start over from scratch as if it was no big deal.

Simply put, start to think of yourself as a child and play. You have an infinite amount of creative energy within you, so use it.

Besides being open to creativity in your daily life, you can balance the second chakra by maintaining a healthy sexual life and honoring and respecting your body. Get in touch with your emotions and see if there are any feelings you’re holding onto. Make a commitment to process those emotions in a healthy way.

Other ways of balancing are through music, meditation, crystals, and asana.

Together both of these sound healing instruments are likely to get those creative juices and sexual energies back going!

Also incorporate crystals by getting some amber, calcite orange, carnelian, or hematite.

Lastly the incorporation of Asanas are a great way to balance the Sacral Chakra. Here are 3 asanas that have helped us stay balanced:

  • Seated pelvic circles: Sitting in a cross-legged or half-lotus pose with your hands on your knees, make circles with your torso. Go around in one direction 5 or 6 times and then switch directions.
  • Baddha konasana (butterfly pose) with forward fold: In a seated position, bring the bottoms of your feet together. Let your knees drop to the sides and bring your heels in close to your pelvis. Lengthen the torso and fold forward.
  • Bhujangasana (cobra pose): Lie on your stomach with your feet flat on the floor. Place your hands under your shoulders and slowly lift your head, chest, and abdomen while keeping your naval on the floor. Be sure to press down through the pubic bone toward the mat.

We hope that you enjoyed reading this blog and hopefully now you know how to get your mojo back by balancing your Sacral Chakra. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to share below!
